Living in Thornton-Cleveleys

Thornton-Cleveleys sits on the Fylde coast, with beaches at Cleveleys and a country park on the banks of the River Wyre. If you are thinking of renting one of our homes here, this short guide covers the seafront, getting about and the local services you are likely to need first.

Beaches and green spaces

Cleveleys has two beaches, Jubilee Beach and Rossall Beach, and Wyre Council says both fly the Seaside Award flag. There is also a designated bathing water at Cleveleys, and you can check its latest water quality on GOV.UK.

A stroll along the Cleveleys seafront takes in the Mythic Coast Artwork Trail, five pieces of public art based on the story of a village drowned off Cleveleys in the 16th century. Further along the promenade towards Fleetwood, Rossall Point Tower has viewing decks looking out over the Irish Sea and across Morecambe Bay to the Lakeland fells.

Inland, Wyre Estuary Country Park sits on the banks of the River Wyre. It holds a Green Flag award and has riverside paths, woodland, a natural play area, birdwatching spots and free parking.

Getting around

The tram runs along the coast between Fleetwood and Starr Gate in Blackpool, with a stop at Cleveleys. Blackpool Transport says trams run as often as every 10 minutes in the daytime, seven days a week. Heading south, the tram also calls at North Station, for trains from Blackpool North. Bus and tram times are on the Blackpool Transport website.

Council services

Two councils share the work here. Wyre Council collects your bins and handles council tax. Lancashire County Council runs the libraries, and there is one in Cleveleys and one in Thornton.

A couple of things worth knowing when you move in. Food waste is collected weekly on your usual bin day, and the green bin for garden waste is only emptied if you take out a subscription with Wyre Council.
