Living in Harrow
Getting around
Harrow-on-the-Hill, Harrow and Wealdstone, South Harrow, Rayners Lane and West Harrow are all in fare zone 5. Rayners Lane has the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines, South Harrow the Piccadilly line and West Harrow the Metropolitan line, and Harrow-on-the-Hill also has National Rail services.
Schools
Harrow Council handles school places. Applications for secondary school usually close on 31 October and for primary school on 15 January. If you've just moved to Harrow and need a place during the school year, you can make an in year application and choose up to six schools. A rental agreement can be used as proof of your new address. Doctors and dentists
Registering with a GP is free, and you don't need ID or proof of address. Use the NHS to find a GP or find a dentist near your new home.
Council tax, bins and parking
Harrow Council collects council tax, and you'll need to tell them when you move in. You can check any home's band on GOV.UK. Homes have a general waste bin, a blue recycling bin and a food caddy, collected free, and because previous residents sometimes take their bins with them, you may need to order new ones. Resident parking permits are virtual and last a year.
Parks
Roxeth Recreation Ground in South Harrow is a Green Flag park with a playground, tennis and an outdoor gym. Headstone Manor Park has over 50 acres, a 14th century moat and a museum. Barbecues aren't allowed in any Harrow park.

How can I rent one of your homes in Harrow?
Join our waiting list and choose Harrow. When one of our homes there becomes available, we'll email you with the details and how to arrange a viewing. We use the same published checklist for everyone, including household income of at least 2 times the monthly rent from all sources, benefits included.
Do you welcome children, people on benefits and pets?
We never refuse anyone because they have children or receive benefits, and since 1 May 2026 that is also the law for landlords in England. Pets are considered case by case.
How much is the deposit, and is it protected?
By law, a tenancy deposit is capped at five weeks' rent where the yearly rent is under £50,000. We protect deposits with the Deposit Protection Service within 30 days, as the law requires.
How long is the tenancy?
Since 1 May 2026 every private tenancy in England rolls on with no end date. If you decide to move on, you give two months' notice in writing.
Do I need a guarantor?
Only if you need one to meet our income check. A guarantor should earn at least 2.5 times the rent and have a good credit record. They don't need to own their home.
